I first came across Danza Azteca at the age of fourteen years old at a day of the dead ceremony in 2011. The moment I heard the drum I fell in love and I couldn’t stop my feet from moving. When I saw the women dance and it looked so beautiful, I was immediately drawn to it and was excited and scared to reach out.
I doubted myself and couldn’t make a choice to reach out or stay scilent. I thought about danza and couldn’t get the beat from the drum out of my mind. I decided to speak to my mom to receive help reaching out to the man in charge of the Aztec Dance Group to be apart of a new learning experience.
The groups name is called Xochipilli and it was the home where I started my journey on this path called the red road. I had joined to performe for my Quinceñera, a celebrated event for women who are coming of age. At first it was a calling and a choice for me and my personal event but afterwards it became a way of life I came to love and accepted as a beautiful part of myself identify & culture.
Many of the photographs above are taken of many performances & Cermonies with Mexica Tiauhi Aztec Dance Group that Ian mhm home.Family, friends and relatives I’ve came to meet and love on this red road are from diverse places of the world, Many from different states in age USA, as well as country’s like Mexico, Peru, Salvador ,all who come to learn, teach about life and culture.
